What does the PTO do?
Major activities of the PTO include:
Student Enrichment: The PTO raises funds for the enrichment of all HDES students, such as in-school events and activities, classroom field trips, playground equipment, and classroom needs. Mini-grants are provided to teachers to use at their discretion for field trips and needed equipment. PTO also chooses unique in-school events to fund. Programs have included puppet making, Slapstick Science, visiting authors and illustrators, singer-songwriters,
Programs: The PTO facilitates programs at selected monthly meetings. Past programs have been on topics such as nutrition and wellness, bullying, academic curricula offered at the school, family diversity, standards based grading, educational aspirations, and much more.
Annual Events: The PTO funds and runs the popular Star of the Week program which honors every student in grades K through 5. The PTO also plans and implements Teacher and Staff Appreciation Week in May, and HDES Night at the Sea Dogs in Portland every spring.
Communication: The PTO serves as a forum of communication among parents, caregivers, teachers, administrators and the school board. PTO encourages member volunteers to be present at school board meetings to remain apprised of policy issues that may affect our kids. PTO has also hosted programs inviting our principal, school board members or others to discuss topics such as school consolidation, testing, standards based reporting, and much more.
Why does the PTO exist? The PTO exists to benefit and enrich the educational experience of every Hall-Dale student and to support the parents, caregivers, teachers and staff of every child in our school.
Where are the meetings held? Meetings take place at the HDES cafeteria or library, and are announced via email, website, and paper notices on HDES school calendars.
When does the PTO meet? The PTO meets monthly, on the second Monday at 6 p.m. except when those dates fall on a holiday then the PTO will meet the following Monday.
How can I get more information about the HDES PTO? Visit our website at www.halldalepto.org to access the PTO bylaws, meeting minutes, upcoming events and general posts. The PTO also has a mailbox and filing cabinet in the front office of HDES. Please email our officers or committee chairs, or leave information and messages in the PTO mailbox.
What volunteer opportunities are available through the PTO? Volunteers are needed to join committees such as enrichment, or programming, or to help with special events. We also need volunteers who are interested in fundraising. For those parents, guardians and caregivers who are unable to volunteer at the school or attend evening meetings, there are sometimes projects that can be done from home, such as collating information, stuffing packets, and other tasks.
