Upcoming Meetings and Events

We hope all the kids at HDES are getting pledges for our Readathon. We are currently in the Pledge Period until February 12th.  Please turn your (GREEN) pledge sheets in to your teacher on Monday, February 13th.  The Pledge Sheets will be returned to you prior to the Collection Period, so you will know who to collect from.

The Reading Period begins on Monday, February 13th.  Please have your kids record every minute of reading they do on the (YELLOW) Reading Records that went home with your Readathon packet.  Parents or another adult should confirm their reading each day by putting your initials in the appropriate column.  The Reading Period will last through February vacation, until February 26th.  As soon as the Reading Period ends, please collect the money from all the pledges your child received, and turn them into the school.  All pledge money and reading records need to be received by Thursday, March 1 in order for kids to have their names entered into our prize drawings. Top readers and pledge-getters will get prizes, and we will also have participation prizes for every child who participates by getting at least one pledge and doing some reading (a Readathon bookmark designed by parent Nora Gray, and a kids’ meal coupon).  Raffle prizes include a bike, a ride to school in a fire truck and police car, tickets to Splashtown, Movie Passes, passes to indoor mini-golf – and much more!  There will be a participation raffle for anybody who participates, regardless of amount.  And finally, classes with 100% participation will get a popcorn party and an extra recess, and possibly special guest visitors.

Thank you in advance for helping our kids strengthen their love of reading, while raising money for our school!  School needs this year include new technology including SmartBoards for the primary classrooms; classroom libraries, both replacement and new; and LCD projectors to replace outdated ones.
